Had an very weird oil leak and a pretty good mess ... O RING failure... Must have been made on a Monday...

Picture 212.png (871868 bytes) Picture 213.png (782432 bytes)

It's fixed now... note the expanding tube style on the replaced return tube. It's sealed now. No leaks.

Picture 219.png (1160534 bytes) Picture 217.png (1187536 bytes) Picture 218.png (1176791 bytes)

I don't know why the O RING failed but heat may have been a factor since it looks as if the exhaust headers may have been leaking a bit. I used some gasket adhesive to solve that problem. I hope it does the trick now. I'll watch the exhaust headers for a few days. and be sure it seals properly. I think that blue stuff works pretty well.

What incredible sunsets we have in Sacramento...  SEE ALL VIDEOS & MORE PICTURES ON THE 'VIDEOS & PHOTOS' PAGE LINK ABOVE.

Alignment REPORT:

WOW!!!!
What a difference! The car actually feels pretty awesome and stable.
I feel like I can hit turns and know that the car will not switch ends without notice.

The rubbing on the left rear fender has completely ceased.

SWWWWEEEEETTT!

That is a great day for me.

THANK YOU !  G12!

Give them a call and let them know you saw it on 74911RS.com!
(SWEET) Alignment turned up a couple of things initially...

The ride height on the rear was PERFECTLY LEVEL, as I thought it was... Good guess... on my angle finder vs. Torsion bar setting. (NICE)

and

the rear left fender was a 1/2 lower than the right. (body imperfection I guess...)
The owner says he believes by setting the alignment to -1 deg on the rear and -1/2 deg on the fronts...
will all but eliminate the slight rub on the outer fender (left rear side).

I agreed... so we're going with -1deg rear, -.50 deg on the fronts. We'll report back when I have driven it again. It'll be a lot less spooky to drive I think.

Had a little shifting trouble...

 Shifter_ENG 20.jpg (779560 bytes) Shifter_ENG 3.jpg (724631 bytes) Shifter_ENG 4.jpg (744579 bytes)

Main Problem: The shifting became VERY sloppy, but I knew I had just replaced the bushings...
But sure enough the rubber bushings had crumbled to pieces. There is only particles left over...

 Shifter_ENG 17.jpg (594718 bytes) Shifter_ENG 11.jpg (561363 bytes) Shifter_ENG 13.jpg (566802 bytes)

Buying just four pieces of bronze bushings from ACE Hardware. The sizes were standard, and fit almost perfect.
The parts needed to fit together so that the cross pin would seat properly and hold firmly, but with a little bit of play.
What results is a smooth solid shifter. Pretty simple. That bronze will not easily wear out, or crumble like the stock bushings.
Engineering is my favorite thing, and this is a perfect challenge.

Folks... I think I have got an engine that is breaking in perfectly.

Ihop_Tuesday 2.jpg (1085715 bytes) Ihop_Tuesday 1.jpg (1069038 bytes)

I had the car out today.... it's just running great. Had a weird problem though... I busted the passenger outside CV joint (bolts snapped) but got that fixed today. I know they got loose because of the on and off the throttle 1K - 5K and back again... over and over... just loosened the bolts.

I'll check them pretty often to be sure they stay tight.

Other than that... the engine is not leaking a DROP of oil. It's amazing. I am sure that the motor is on a good track. The next thing is to get it aligned. I can now trust it to drive about 50 miles round trip and once i get it aligned... I will feel more confident with the handling. Right now it seems a little squirrely... especially when letting off the gas. It seems a tad ` time - for the moment it seems a little spooky.

So I am driving it very carefully - nothing crazy.

01/17/09 - 01/19/09 - Added Mirrors, detailing interior. Painting all NON-Yellow surfaces rust-o-leum semigloss black. Starting to look pretty killer.
