Saturday: 03/28/09 Test Fitting...you name it...
...
and the curious case of the 'quest for VLASE_T Plates..."

74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 092.jpg (180183 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 080.jpg (153220 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 081.jpg (159078 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 082.jpg (151037 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 083.jpg (147891 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 084.jpg (151177 bytes)
74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 085.jpg (147077 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 086.jpg (180261 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 087.jpg (129705 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 088.jpg (153986 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 089.jpg (155485 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 090.jpg (167086 bytes) 74911RS-RE_ASSEMBLY 091.jpg (145017 bytes)

It may seem like double work, but unless I tack the car together soon the DMV won't recognize the car as 'title-able' (is that a word?). That is a problem, since I cannot obtain and attach the "VLASE_T" License Plates to this car -- unless it's registered -- which goes back to whether they will issue a Title for the car. Of course, all I need to do is bolt everything lightly together...

I know all that is rather confusing.

I am pretty sure the DMV have people whose only job is to figure out how to make the process so convoluted that they can be sure the public will never figure out what they are really doing - which is of course taking money from honest hard-working folks while refusing to fix roads and potholes.

Ok... I am off of my soap box (for now...)

I spent the better part of TWO days trying to get the car titled only to find out that they won't do it because it's basically in too many pieces. (never mind that all the pieces were right there in the garage and verified by a policeman... incredible!)

UUUUUUGGGGHHH!!! I HATE THE DMV!

We'll, I intend to fix that in short order. I am going to tack the entire car together so it looks to the untrained eye that the thing is ready to start up and drive away. I don't think they are going to make me start it up. If they do, that would be pretty amazing. We'll have a peace officer come by and see if I can't get this sucker titled -- so I can pick up my plates. Just one more step toward that glorious day when the car will be on the road...

...taking me to places that are as of yet... only in my dreams.

More shortly... I promise.

In other news... the DMV paperwork is done, and I should receive the personalized plates (VLASE T) in about a 1 -2 months. That give me some time to get the rest of the car done, and ready for the road. Currently it's in a non-op mode, so when I am ready to switch it over, it's just a quick process. Full speed ahead!

Some work was done on the headers to get them prepared to be installed. The heater housings were loose, and required a few welds to tighten them up. Done. The motor shots were jus to show off the new Carrera Tensioners. The motor is completely timed and ready for further assembly. There are several more hours of brushing and painting of the interior and exterior with satin black. That should be done in the next few weeks since the weather is cooperating.

01/13/09 Just taking a glimpse into history...

Do you remember? ... July 2008 Looked like this ...

Now it's hard to believe it IS the same car!

1/29/09   Interior Details! Just contacted: DPi. (http://www.dpi-sf.com/)

I am checking with  Sanjay Sakhuja -
Sanjay@dpi-sf.com
(415) 216-0031 Phone

They are sending me a sample of materials for possibly generating the following
custom pattern for the seats to be restored to their former glory:

The seat pattern is really not that difficult to reproduce, if you know graphics stuff.

This image on the left is from a person who was selling some brown/grey PASHA material.
I plan to match the one I have seen below that is black/white.
It'll work better with the Yellow Exterior Paint.

This might look a bit too wild! Disclaimer: This pattern can cause seizures!!! :)

The trick is to be able to print this pattern on a wide bolt of material which can be used to re-produce the upholstery on the seats. It's very possible that DPi and I are going to work something out, so that I can use this pattern.

Here is the original seats... from my SC, and the 1980 Wreck...

1980 Seats on left with bad metal base, original seats from 1978 SC, with only so/so leather. I plan to re-do the seats with the PASHA pattern, on the good metal bases of the 1978 SC Seats.

Car arrived ... JAN 12,2009

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This paint is AWESOME! WOW!! THANKS SERGIO!

This paint has a slight metallic, which I thought I saw in the pictures.
It is a slight gold metallic, which shines in the sun, and creates a
killer gradient color!!

Update: Jan 11,09:

The color shown below is approximated as close as possible, but it's difficult for me to tune the images since the I have not actually laid eyes on it. It's currently in a shop over in Salinas. Should be delivered sometime in the next two weeks. Cheers!
